Jude bridges theory and practice in the new media specialisation. He is also deputy new media editor of Grocott's Mail . His experience over the past decade includes media education and training, freedom of expression and media advocacy; stakeholder and project management for media assistance; and media production, editing and design for print and internet. He graduated with distinction from the Department of Journalism, Technikon Natal and later completed a Baccalaureus Technologiae summa cum laude. He tweets as at @newmediajude on Twitter

Harry Dugmore
Harry Dugmore's picture
Harry Dugmore is the newly appointed MTN Chair of Media and Mobile Communication at the School of Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University in South Africa. Before joining Rhodes, Harry worked for the office of the President in South Africa creating long-term scenarios for the both the country and the African continent. The results of this two-year research project, “South Africa 2025: The future we choose”, outlining three scenarios for South Africa, was published in September 2008. Harry’s research interests include the use of mobile communications to encourage long-term behaviour change (especially in field of HIV and AIDS field), using cell phone technology to match producers to markets in developing countries, and the use of cell phones by government to provide better services and information to citizens. In his position at MTN Chair at Rhodes, Harry is running a major project funded by the USA-based Knight Foundation entitled “Iindaba Ziyafika - The news is coming”. This project aims, among other things, to better equip media producers in Africa with the skills and the software to use mobile phones to democratise both news production and news dissemination. Harry has PhD in history from the University of the Witwatersrand, and lives and works in Grahamstown.
Guy Berger

Prof Guy Berger is head of the School of Journalism & Media Studies at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. There he has overseen the development of the Africa Media Matrix building, as well as projects like the New Media Lab, Highway Africa conference and the Sol Plaatje Media Leadership Institute. He has a PhD from Rhodes, and is active in the South African National Editors Forum.

Anne Taylor worked as project manager in the New Media Lab. She is a Rhodes Journalism graduate, and worked as a newspaper journalist from 1992. She joined the start-up team of Independent Online way back in 1999 and has been hooked to all things digital ever since. Anne now works as a freelance writer and editor. Brad has a history in Information Technologies, with practical skills in a range of web-related technologies. He has built on his background in Science, and is currently completing his MSc, which focuses on utilising Open Source Software to improve rural community livelihoods. He is an outspoken advocate of Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) and now works for OpenVOICE in Cape Town. He used to have a blog on this site, called New Media Brad, but he can now be found at whijo.net.
Vincent has 10 years of experience in structural design and corporate content management strategy, working for clients like DSTv/Multichoice, SAA, First National Bank, Virgin Active, South African Tourism, Standard Bank, Nandos and Visa Gold Asia. He is a member of the telkom ICT Journalist of the Year judging panel. Vincent used to have a blog on this site called Menthol, he can now be found on VincentMaher.com
Colin has been involved in freelance web development and graphic design since he completed his BJourn degree and has taught various software packages to staff and students. Colin worked extensively with Highway Africa to consult on the design and development of their online portal. His main interests include web development and the impact of new technology on the media. Vanessa completed her BJourn in 1999 specialising in radio journalism. Her masters thesis examined radio on the internet, where she did a case study analysis of a South African radio station and its movement online. 2001 saw her working in Johannesburg as a features reporter for the Engineering News and Mining Weekly.
