Facebook decided to join the ranks of chat applications by creating one like WhatsApp, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) or WeChat called Facebook Messenger. However, this app comes with security costs that we (users) have allowed.

Incoming message: smartphones ruin weekend plans

 It is Thursday, meaning the weekend is almost upon us and right now I should be thinking about who I am going to see, what parties I am going to be at, what plans I am going to make and which plans I am going to keep. The convenience of smartphones, however, make it that much easier for me to put off these decisions, at least right until the last minute.

Apart from being a cheesy re-imagining of a pop song that surged through the airwaves last year, that opening line points to a question which has perhaps been on the minds of telecoms gurus for quite some time now: Are voice calls finally sliding further down the pecking order for mobile phone users?
