So, there's this proposal for a Media Standards Board, to be appointed by a Minister, put forward by the Tanzanian government in February. Among the functions of this body is to:

"Spearhead recognition of journalism as a profession, by rescuing the media sector from harbouring incompetent and unqualified journalists ...".

Accordingly, "no person shall practise professional journalism in Tanzania" unless accredited by the Board.
